A little insane and another recipe..........

Well with all the wonderful feed here in the paddocks we also have lots of grasses that have little umbrellas that break off and blow everywhere and I mean everywhere..........

On Friday night and Sat a strong front came thru and this stuff really started to blow.............we have not had it really bad since about 1996 i think..........comes from summer feed............and as we have had sooooo much rain here are some pics...............it is a pain to get rid as it gets stuck ever where and we will not do anything about it until it stops blowing in another month or 2 it will drive me insane very quickly but not much I can do about it and I would prefer to have it if it means we have lots of feed for the stock..................

I have now given up parking my car in the shed as it is just to hard to get the umbrella grass out of the way............but it looks really cool stacked up along the fences............from a distance it looks like bales of hay lined up...............totally useless of course.........

Tonight while out turning off hoses I ended up about 1 foot away from a black snake...........way to close............the heart beat a little faster.............mind you he was a little upset to...........thank goodness there was a dodgy wire fence between us but way to close.............oh and Ruth it was a Blue belly black

Now if you have made it this far you deserve a recipe.........I was on a cooking spree this last week............

Crunchy Biscuits

1 cup castor sugar

1 egg

beat the above together well

Melt 125gms butter and add to above - mix slightly

hand mix this into

1 cup cornflakes

1 cup rolled oats

1 cup Self raising flour

200gms crushed nuts or slivered almonds

press into balls (use 1 teaspoon) and place on a tray

cook 15 minutes in a moderate oven 180 deg cel

Enjoy!!!!!!!!!

Recipe for Kim..........

Well things are soooooooo quite in blogland over the weekend..........where is everyone........

I was chatting to Kim - Still Meadow Quilting the other day while cooking some Honey Joys.........she didn't know what they were so I thought I would share the recipe here............

Honey Joys.....

90g butter

1/3 cup sugar

1 tablespoon honey

4 cups Kellogg's Corn Flakes

Melt butter, sugar and honey together in a saucepan until frothy........make sure it doesn't burn........ Add this to the corn flakes and mix well..........quickly spoon into paper patty cases............

Bake in a slow oven 150°C for 10 minutes..........this makes 24 honey joys.

The best part is the kids didn't like them so much (don't think they had had them before) so all the Mum's that hadn't had them for years enjoyed them...........

I used to make these all the time and had not made a batch for years..........
I have been getting some sewing done...........fairy girl has one more row to join onto her top then onto the borders..........1/4 inch gets pretty narrow at times so she has had to resew a few places.......but she is doing really well........and I gave her the backing for her quilt on her birthday...........
I picked up my quilt from Blueberry Lane (you can sneak a peek here) but now I need to get some binding material..........I think I will bind it will some very light green but I don't have any so will have to wait until I go shopping somewhere.....
......I am very pleased with it thanks Blueberry...........

Round 2 ..........done............

This is the my 2nd round of the roosting robin. The recipe said rectangles and I know this is the most basic rectangle you can do but it worked well with the corner blocks...........hope you like my RR project so far..........
You can see what the other girls are doing over here...................

look here.........

This lady is leaving blogger with a bang and a fab giveaway if you tell her your favourite quilt ............then she is going to here in typepad. ............She is also celebrating 2 years online and 170 posts.......so head on over................

..as I have no sewing to report today here are some pics I took yesterday afternoon..........
dead flower, spiders, rain drops and spider web are some of the things I found in these pics when I loaded them onto the computer..........
This is my new hibicus flower I brought on the weeekend..............this flower is huge and beautiful............the rose is Proncess de Monocco and an oleander flower

My only problem is my online chatting friend Jodie is off the air - some internet problem my life is pretty quite with our her........
.............Take care...........

Here's another surprise.........

Yes this will be for Fairy Girl too.........when I was sorting out my sewing........(stop laughing Carey) I found some material from Fairy Girl's Princess Mary quilt that I made for her a few years ago...........so it will go well with her room...........

just enough to frame this stitchery and very scrappy pieced back...............

Now about the angel she came from a swap organised by Janet (mid last year) and I was lucky enough to receive this beautiful angel from Darlene at Bee So Whimsical......... I think these materials were just perfect for the framing..........
Oh and I nearly forgot...............head over to Kerry and wish her happy 2nd blog birthday......16th Feb I think she has been to busy to remember...........she is back into her wonderful retreats so very busy again.........
Take care til next time...........

Secrets and Shopping..............

No no the shopping isn't the secret............I am just slack and hadn't gotten around to showing you what i got while away............what else to buy on a road trip but Leanne's "Romancing the Road Trip"

Just happened upon a quilt shop open on a Sunday afternoon..............jammed on the brakes, pulled over and reversed back up the road...........well worth the stop........I don't have much in creams so got a few......

Now shhhhhhhhhhh don't tell Fairy Girl but she has a birthday coming up this week and since she has slept with Mr Red Rabbit since last week I thought maybe I should make her a special friend.........gosh i don't know how you girls make softies all the time..........so dam fiddly and I had to sew the crutch together again once finished..........so don't look to closely..............but I am sure Fairy Girl will love it............

Take care till next time...............

To add to my last post...........

After a few emails back and forwards with Jodie (one of three I regularly visit - so much confusion with that name) she said she still had her sample stitching from about 11 or 12yrs old I think and she still had her sewing box and her quick un pick......

.....so that lead me to showing you my first sewing box.......a cute little pink number........I still LOVE this little basket............

(there's another post of what I found in it.............it is only small but I found about 4 WISP's.............mainly embroidery and cross stitch)

then when I started sewing in High School I "had to have" this yellow sewing box as this is what all the other girls had............oh the pressure...........

I had a few girls comment as "no reply " sorry I can't write back to you................

beginning craft.............

Over the weekend I had a neighbour over to visit we were talking about a outfit I though I had and went in search of it.............hmmmmmmm not luck finding the outfit and I knew where it should have been so I must have thrown it out but what I did find was some old craft I have not seen for years .................forgive the quality but I think most of it was done in primary school................

Mr Rabbit is currently sleeping with fairy girl.............I think it was a project to pass a badge in Brownies or Guides............

Not sure where I made this foul orange bag but look at the blanket stitch..........pretty wild but I was just young............lol..........by the time you get to the next letter you can't see it is almost reverse blanket stitch.........lol......

Mushroom wall hanging............

such neat even stitches...................NOT.........lol

Even had a go at Hobby Text (is that what it was called) I know my mum had it but this was done in Guides..............I was in the Rosellas group...............we also had Lyrebirds........

Loved Smurfs at the time............also think we traced these pics as I am not a good drawer..........

These yellow ones were completed in Yr 3 or 4 at school so i was 9 or 10 years old......this yellow material must have been cheap..............hand stitching

My first needlekeeper completely hand sewn...............thankgoodness my sewing skills have improved since then...........I think I choose the red and purple as our stitches had to "show up" and we had to decorate it with stitches........

machine stitching here............same yellow see what I mean we did have a lot of it............

the cover of my needle work sampler.........

various hand stitches.............

and a few more fancy ones.............

finally I remember doing this with the Nun's..............this Nun was particularly strict ..........we pulled the threads out first and then stitched through........such neat knots on the back...........I was definitely in Yr 3 or 4 so i am very proud of the neatness of my stitching.............

Until I got all this together I didn't realise how much childhood sewing I had kept.........I am also very pleased that I did keep this.........could have been thrown out on a whin like the dress I was looking for......I wished I had the opportunity to do more and I have very happy memories from all these projects...............
.....makes me so pleased i am sewing with fairy girl and bookworm (ds)............hopefully they will have fond memories like me in years to come..........
Do you still have some sewing craft from your childhood????? Or am I the only collector which I seriously doubt............

Along the roads...........

As there is soooo much grass around...........over the last few weeks I have noticed all the amazing grasses and different colours and types of heads..........here are some pics taken when I have just stopped and snapped..........wished I had my big camera this day but only had my baby camera but she did do very well I think..........it is just so pretty driving around and I have been doing a bit of that........
We have had the most amazing summer so far..........I have not seen so much grass around in summer for .............hmmmmmm I don't remember how long so it must have been a long time............and we have had the mildest summer so far the temps have been very kind.........hardly a HOT day so far.........the power bill will be good hardly using the air conditioner.........I keep telling the kids take it all in and enjoy as this is not the "norm" although I could get used to it immediately.........

Take a look around and see what you can see along the roads..........

Flooded again - it can rain

Well for those of you that are newish to my blog you may think I live in a wet area..............WRONG just go back to here and here and you can see this time last year things were getting very dry.................but since it has started to rain again we are on our second flood in 2 months - very unusual but they always say "a drought always ends with a flood" gosh I hope they are right............

We are flooded again and thankfully not as bad as the last.......................don't think I will ever see that again in my life time....................in the last flood just before Christmas all this was covered in water...........there is grass everywhere...........the stock are looking good.....what more can a girl ask for............

Today was supposed to be the second day back at school but with more rain last night we stayed home...........didn't need to get bogged..........

This morning the kids played in some shallow drains trying to catch yabbies but this afternoon dh took the boat upstream and they floated down the creek..........they had so much fun..........I was the motor bike taxi so I took the camera along.............enjoy..........

odd bit of a gum tree........dh says it looks like a dog????

we have some amazing gums in the creek................I love them.........

the crossing...........

I know I said I would show a pic of my sewing progress tonight but we got carried away out at the creek and it was a bit late for a photo so maybe tomorrow but I did do some playing........

and for some amazing sunset pics go here..............

Goodnight till next time...........
